List Building: 3 Ways to Attract High Quality
When it comes to list building, businesses often worry about the amount of subscribers they have. In realty, it’s not about how many leads you attract, but rather about how many high quality leads you gather or convert.
It’s always better to focus on quality over quantity because when someone subscribes to receive information from your business, it means they are interested in your product or service offering.
Here are three ways to attract a higher quality subscriber to your email lists.
1.) Offer Subscriptions Everywhere for List Building
In order to attract the subscribers you’re seeking, you have to let them know that subscribing to your e-newsletter or special announcements exists. While a subscription option should be available on the Home Page of your Web site and any landing pages you use in your marketing efforts, it also needs to be visible on all of your other touch points with your current and potential customers, along with how it will benefit them.
Think about all of the interaction points you have with current and prospective customers and make sure that an opt-in box is available. Some options to consider are e-mail messages, transaction pages of your online shopping cart, in order confirmations, on invoices, etc. When you talk with people on the phone or meet them face-to-face, tell them about your e-newsletter or online promotions and ask if they’d like to be added to your list.
2.) Broadcast Your Offer on the Social Media Sites
With Face book fast becoming the number one site on the internet, followed by Twitter, and LinkedIn, you should take full advantage of this hotbed of quality leads.
Announce your opt-in offer on all of your social media network profiles and Fan Pages, which allows you to reach target market audiences that you may not otherwise have had an opportunity to reach.
Don’t over-do, and don’t inundate your friends with “join me” emails. But have your sites present on your page, and use the 80-20 rule. Practice 80% relationship building, and useful content, with 20% being your offer.
When you do get someone who is interested in receiving your information, they will be a high quality lead, coming from one of your social media sites. They know who you are and are obviously interested in what you have to share.
3.) Reconnect with Old Customers
If you’re new to building your list online or even if you’ve been at it for a while, pull out old snail mail lists you may have lying around your office or sitting in your database.
Reconnecting with and reengaging old customers is another way of list building. If you have their e-mail addresses, send out a special e-mail inviting them to subscribe to your e-newsletter or special promotions list.
If you only have a phone number or mailing address for them, send out a special mailing or pick up the phone and call them. Tell them that you’re updating your database, and ask for their e-mail address.
If a customer has bought from you before, then they are your target audience. By communicating with them on a regular basis, you may be able to convert an old customer into a new customer again.
When it comes to list building, it’s better to focus efforts on the ways you can find quality leads – people or organizations that are interested in what you are selling. When you focus on communicating with quality leads that have an interest, your conversion rate is going to be much higher than when you communicate with thousands of people who don’t have any interest.
